Candlelight Trataka & Sound Bath Meditation with Wendy & Meiyan

  • Yoga Seeds Shala 1384 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 Singapore, 569932 Singapore (map)

In the first edition of our new Fridays at the Shala series, join us in the exploration of extended 90 minute classes which include both class types within our usual class offerings, as well as more meditative experiences. These sessions are usually scheduled once a month on Fridays at 7.15pm, and may differ in timing if it falls on a Public Holiday. Yoga Seeds members may attend these sessions with a valid pass.

Join Wendy & Meiyan for a candlelit immersive meditation experience starting with Trataka, a cleansing practice for the eyes and mind. Trataka is a meditation technique that involves gazing at a single object, such as a candle flame, to calm the mind and body. This cleansing technique enhances concentration, promotes inner awareness, and helps to still the mind. The intention of the practice is to experience a deep level of meditation and self-realization by focusing on a single object in order to transcend the distractions of everyday living.

In your meditative state, we continue to tune inwards by surrendering to the sound vibrations of tibetan bowls, crystal bowls, swinging chimes and more. Sound healing is a form of vibrational medicine that helps to fine tune your system with sounds with the intention of restoring balance and activating your body’s natural healing abilities. During a Sound Bath, it activates what is known as the Relaxation Response, allowing us to go into a repair and recovery mode. You may choose to practice seated or in savasana.

About Wendy Chan & Meiyan Cheong

Wendy and Meiyan first crossed paths in 2016, when Meiyan was looking for a Yoga Teacher Training to begin her teaching journey. The pair have journeyed together to go from teacher and student, to friends, to peers who now teach alongside each other in that same Yoga Teacher Training faculty. Their shared love for nature, the ocean, meditation, and of course, yoga, has led them to host retreats together in Bintan and Bali, as well as leading Kirtan singing circles together.

Something else that these two teachers have in common is their shared passion for sound in its many forms. What started as jamming for fun quickly developed into the urge to bring the yoga community together through Kirtan. Kirtan group singing is usually led in a call and response format, and is a practice of Bhakti Yoga, which is devotional in nature. They also enjoy leading meditative practices together, with Wendy tapping into her traditional roots and strong meditation background, while Meiyan complements the practice with gentle and relaxing sound vibrations created by Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls and chimes.
